Dangerous goods are goods that, in the event of a transport accident, would cause significant harm to human health, human life, and the environment. The classification of dangerous goods by nature and degree of hazard is defined by the ADR regulations with the aim of systematizing and regulating the transport of goods with hazardous properties.

Dangerous goods include any substances or articles that are:

Explosives: solid or liquid substances (or mixtures of substances) capable of undergoing a chemical reaction that releases gases at such a temperature, pressure, and rate that it causes damage to surrounding objects.

Pyrotechnic substances: substances or mixtures of substances intended to produce effects such as heat, light, sound, gas, or smoke, or a combination thereof, as a result of self-sustaining exothermic chemical reactions that occur without detonation.

Explosive articles: articles containing one or more explosive or pyrotechnic substances.

Substances and articles not mentioned above that are manufactured for use in blasting operations or to produce pyrotechnic effects.
